Ok I’m looking at Three definite Colleges I want to apply for and at the moment I’m studying for my ACT"s sooo what score do I need to get into
Lincoln Institure (Culinary School in Maryland
Culinary Institute of Michigan
and Le Cordon Bleu (formally Texas Culinary school or somehthing along those line)
Also I was wonder if anyone knew a good way to study for the ACT’s. my counsilor said there no real way to prep for it. But there has to be some way right? like what main sub-subjects do I need to know(ex – Algebra – pemdas, knowing properties and such)
I was wondering if it’s possible to test out of a high school course in the state of Texas. I want to test out of 12th grade english. I feel I have sufficient skills to do so and have no doubt I would. I’ve been in the AP Program since junior high. I’ve also aced every state assessment exam in the subject. Although not quite high enough for National Merit Scholar selection, I have made very high marks on every PSAT I’ve taken (scores ranging from 185-205), and I made a high enough on the last AP Test I took to test out of the first semester of college freshman english for most school, which is my schools Dual Credit equivalent to the first semester of high school senior english. All in spite of having dyslexia and no academic modifications. I am an aspiring chef currently in culinary school as well, and testing out would give me time to get an apprenticeship. Is my case strong enough that I should be considered for testing out? And is it even possible in Texas?
Thinking about going to culinary school but also thinking of going to college for something in the medical field just need more details to make up my mind and is it best to go to culinary school to be a sous chef, pastry chef or both???
Ok….so I’ve wanted to go to culinary school since high school….fast forward seven years and that is still my passion…just now…I have to chase that dream with a 5 year old and ten month old twins!! My five year old wants to go to school with me ha ha!! Ok so here is my question…..I live in Texas and would like to know of some culinary schools that I may not have heard of. I know about TCA, CIA of San Antonio and The Art Insitutes. But are there any others that I should look into. I wanted to go to the Culinary Institue of America in Hyde Park, NY but I don’t want to uproot my family and move…especially since I have so much of my family living in Texas (always nice to have family close with little ones)!! I would really like a Degree in Culinary Arts not just a certificate and I have some kitchen experience….any suggestions?
If I enroll in the Associate in Early Childhood Education program will I actually have my associates degree, or will I have to do more schooling? The course outline looks nothing like an actual college’s requirements of math, english, etc. and the cost is so much lower that I’m doubtful that it will result in a true associates degree. For the other courses too, such as culinary arts or pharmacy tech for example, do the programs just provide you with information so you can just learn more about those fields, like teaching you how to cook for personal use and info, etc. without giving you some kind of degree or certificate to show for it? Would you have something in hand to show an employer to make more money or start a new career altogether? For instance, would you really be a licensed pharmacy tech just by doing the program, or are there additional steps in getting the proper license/credentials? I currently work in a daycare and want to make childcare into a better paying career in the daycare setting only, but the pay now is terrible, so I’m looking into anything useful to increase my pay. I’m not interested in owning my own daycare, or opening one at home, I just want to move up in pay where I’m already employeed either as a teacher still or moving up into one of the office/administrative/assistant director positions. Penn Foster offers child daycare mgmt, child dev. associates credential, and an associates in early childhood education, but I don’t know what would be my best option as far as a complete program or if the associates will actually be an associates degree. I know the cda is great to have, but I know there’s a lot to it; Penn Foster just gives you the 120 hours needed without all the other stuff involved. I want a course that’s all inclusive. I don’t want to pay out a lot of money that I don’t really even have if I won’t have something concrete to show for it. So does anyone have an idea of how much more you can earn in a daycare in Texas with any of those college options? Is it like a dollar more an hour or what? I have no clue how worthwhile any of it is, including the cda that everyone in daycare seems to covet the most. What’s my best option for the most optimum pay increase?
Im trying to choose what to go to school for but with the way things are these days im not sure what would be a smart move. I live in north texas, so the top three im not sure about.I dont know if those businesses are doing well or will be doing well here. But they are for sure my passions. Eventually i would like to have my own business/company, so business school wouldnt be a bad idea anyway but i wanna get something else going first. Should i go for………
-interior Design
– culinary arts
-esthetician/medical
-business
-medical assistant
Please any advice from people who have these occupations or also share these passions. If so, which one, how you do it and are you doing well now?!?!?!?! Also, Medical assistants! Good choice/Bad choice?!??! Anybody please im so confused. I wanna start my life already……………..
See the medical assistant thing would pretty much be my easy way. It will always be in demand and its quick and a guarenteed pay check…… The other things i choose because i am good at them and i enjoy them very much. On one hand i do wanna get started right away but then i think will i be happy long term….. And im not thinkin i wanna be a ceo of some coorporate company but more something of "mine". like my own salon or resturaunt or maybe a design firm… My BIG issue is if the economy the way it is, will i be able to get a job as a medical esthetician outta school or at as cook at a nice restuarant or is there a place i could work for where i would be able to do more hands on work in the design field. How High Are The Demands For These Things?!??! Gotta pay the bills!!!
Ok. I was planning on Going to Texas A&M University in College Station, There i wanted to either rent a dorm or find something cheaper, which i would already have paid for me as well as food, i would study Veterinary sciences, i prolly spelled it wrong sorry, as a major and Computer Animation as a minor, or as a co-major, during the daytime. then i was hoping to take night classes studying culinary arts, and some other possible minor maybe. if i spent 8 hours in day school and 8 hours in night school that would give me 8 hours a day to sleep do my home work eat and anything else id need to do. i get 0 a month so i can pay for food and lodging if i do without certain lodgings and i was wondering if anyone has done something similar or could relate and tell me if i could do it or not without collapsing from exhaustion. i have time, plenty, to plan but i want to start early and get ready for something i might take awhile getting ready for so please answer this question truthfully and fully. Thank you.
Okay… So this may seem REALLY crazy to you since I’m in the 8th grade.. but hey, I like to plan ahead! (WAY WAY AHEAD)
So. I’m from Texas and I really want to go to school in Europe. I need someone to talk to since my parents act like I’m giving them a guilt trip every time I talk to them about it.. which i am not.. So if you could please answer some of my questions and my many concerns that would be great. Thanks.
Why I want to go:
To have the experience of living abroad. And fending for myself… maybe to get a little maturity?
My concerns:
Would my parents feel like I’m abandoning them? I don’t want to break their hearts but I really don’t like where I am living. Its a really good university town but I just need to spread my wings and see the rest of the world on my own.
My parents have barely saved money for my college fund. I have less than 1000 dollars in there and so I would def. not be able to go to a prestigious university like oxford. Also I don’t want to leave my parents in debt so I would need to get a job. I have been told that you can’t get a job on a student visa. Now, I was born in Canada and I was thinking of going ahead and getting my Passport from there (even though I have an American one, I am still a "citizen" of the Canada and am labeled Canadian simply because I was born there). Canada, being a Commonwealth country, would give me the ability to work in any commonwealth country, correct? I really am unaware of the rules.
Would it be difficult for a person who has only been to summer camp once in her life? Lol.
I want to be an environmentalist but I also am good at art and am interested in culinary arts as well as anthropology and the study of culture and I love learning foreign language. Would there be anything available for me?
Also. What countries should I be considering? I’ve never been to europe though I hope to go really soon. I was thinking Ireland seeing that the UK is expensive. Also France. Anywhere you suggest. Really.
That was all I have to ask. Basically I need some REALLY REALLY good advice. Please don’t be a critic.
So it’s been really cold for the past couple of weeks getting a little below freezing at night. We even got a white Christmas and a white new years ish. Haha and it’s north Texas as in the Dallas area. So we have this youth culinary show tomorrow. (I’m in high school and I’m in culinry) and well you see if we don’t have school tomorrow we won’t get to go on that field trip!!! And it would be nice not to have school BUT STILL!! ughhhhh it’s supposed to be like 28 for the high and 12 for the low!!!! Tomorrow and the low tonight is 28. Is it gona freeze?
I’m an 18 year old female, a senior in high school and I’ve never had a job before because I was on a rowing team for 3 years that took up all of my time. However, I’m a member of the Culinary Arts program at my school and have experience in food service and preperation. I also speak Spanish. I feel like I’ve been applying everywhere, and I’ve only gotten 2 interviews. They both said that they really wanted to hire me but they didn’t have any work available for the hours I can work.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what places would hire me?
PS: I live in Austin, Texas
